REVISED ACOUSTIC REQUIREMENTS IN TOY STANDARD EN71 part 1

The European standardization committee CEN published a revision of toy acoustic requirements in EN71-1:2011+A2:2013 in September 2013. If this amendment A2 approved to be harmonized in the EU Official Journal, it will modify the European Standard EN 71-1:2011.

Mainly Change in requirement
Introduce the following definitions of new toy categories and introduce the definition of sound exposure category 1,2,3 and also revise the requirement and test method.

New Toy Categories definitions:
Percussion Toy: A child-actuated toy designed to emit sound when struck with a beater, such as a drumstick, or with the hand (examples include but are not limited to: toy drums, toy xylophones, toy tambourines).
Voice Toy: Toy designed to emit sound when actuated by the voice by electronically amplifying or distorting the voice and where the output sound level depends on the input sound level of the voice (examples include but are not limited to: toy telephones, toy walkie-talkies, voice-recording toys).
Wind Toy: Toy designed to emit sound when actuated by the blowing action of a child
(examples include but are not limited to: toy trumpets, toy whistles, toy flutes) and where the sound level depends on the force of the blowing action.
Cap-firing Toy: Toy designed to emit sound caused by the discharge of a percussion cap.(Examples of cap-firing toys include cap guns.)

Three exposure sound categories:
   1. Exposure to sound more than 30s.
   2. Exposure to sound between 5s and 30s.
   3. Exposure to sound less than 5s.

Acoustic limits have been set depending on product type and exposure category.
