EU Published 2013/2/EU to Amend Annex I of 94/62/EC Packaging and Packaging waste Directive

February 7, 2013, European Commission published the Directive 2013/2/EU amending Annex I to Directive 94/62/EC packaging and packaging waste in the Official Journal of the European Union. This Directive shall enter into force on the twentieth day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.

Directive 2013/2/EU amended Annex I (Article 3(1) of Directive 94/62/EC defines ‘packaging’ by setting out a number of criteria) to Directive 94/62/EC. The examples for criteria (i), (ii), (iii) in Annex I has been revised and respectively increased 19 , 4 , 2 illustrative examples. The list of illustrative examples clarified additional cases where the borderline between what is packaging and what is not.

Although 94/62/EC have several amendments, the sum requirements of the four harmful substances: lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium in packaging materials is still limited to 100 ppm.
